The Chapel
Ty Capel Carmel - meaning ‘Carmel Chapel House’ - is a beautifully converted 1834 Methodist chapel — sitting in the quiet rural landscape of the Carmel Ffridd, surrounded by mountains, wildlife and dark skies. Originally built as a chapel with living quarters for the minister, the building served its community for around a century before falling into disuse and later being sensitively transformed into a quirky, character-filled home in the 1970s.
A Rustic Escape
A stay at Ty Capel Carmel feels a little like an off-grid adventure: remote and atmospheric, yet comfortably equipped for a relaxing break. With its 3-foot thick stone walls, original pulpit and slightly timeworn edges, this is a charming, lived-in space — warm, soulful and full of personality rather than stark, modern polish. If chrome, glass and minimalism is your thing, this may not be for you! If you love heritage, authenticity and cosy fireside evenings, you’ll feel instantly at home.

- Exceptionally quiet lane — the nearby bridge is an ideal spot for tea or wine
Practicalities
- Wi-Fi and central heating included
- Multifuel burner can be used with seasoned wood and smokeless coal
Please take note:
- There are several open stairs and changes of level in the house which may be tricky with crawlers or toddlers, and unfortunately make the property unsuitable for wheelchair users
- Being on a remote hillside, the WiFi is sufficient for everyday general use, but unlikely to be suitable for work
- The garden is enclosed on all sides but may not be completely secure for larger dogs who can jump walls
- Mobile signal is variable - generally fine but not strong
- The house is not supplied with mains water: our water is pumped from the stream running alongside the house. It is treated and tested regularly, and passed as safe for drinking by the local council
- We don't have very high water pressure, so if you want a power shower this may not be the place for you (although ample hot baths are available!)
- Please note the house has a strict no-smoking policy
- The house is located on a remote mountain road and guests visiting in winter should be well prepared for winter road conditions and check the forecast before travelling. If you have any concerns, please get in touch and we’ll be happy to talk this through with you.
